Don't Go Away
I’m trying to figure out what you said/‘Cuz what you said went through my head.
One more last chance and I’ll blow it/ After all I’ve done I think you owe it.
I spoke and you got mad/ You left now I’m so sad/
chorus:
(Oh No) Don’t go away,
(Oh No) I thought I heard you say,
(Oh No) Don’t go away,
But please just don't stay.
I spoke and you got mad/ You left now I’m so sad/
I’ll try and pull myself back in.
Feel free to go ahead and lump this song into the category known as the "Repetitive Phase" of the Pond Monkeys musical growth. Using repeated words and phrasing, Alex tried to hammer his message in again...and again..and again. "Don't Go Away" was the band's first attempt at writing outside of its well worn pop genre. Using original chords and tunings, the band exposed its fondness for Korn-like riffs and alternative singing. This track features a breakdown/bridge that the band was extremely proud of early on. "Don't Go Away" remains a crowd pleaser at Pond Monkey shows.
"Don't Go Away" first appeared as a fast little number on the seven song EP. It was rerecorded for Wing It as a heavy metal jam combining acoustic guitars with distorted feedback. With Daniel now playing a second guitar, "Don't Go Away" has become the kind of grungy thrasher that Alex had always wanted.
